This year the Barreau du Québec will award its highest honour, the Médaille du Barreau to Pierre Marc Johnson, Counsel at Lavery and former Premier of Quebec.
This greatly deserved honour recognizes his career as a jurist and a politician and more particularly his contribution to the advancement of law and the public interest.
Acting as chief negotiator for Quebec since 2009 during the negotiations of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), Me Johnson was responsible for relations and representations with Canadian and European Union representatives, on behalf of a dozen Quebec government ministries.
The negotiations culminated on February 15th of this year when the European Parliament approved the CETA. The signing of this agreement is an unprecedented event for Quebec as it is the first time in its history that the province has fully participated in the negotiation of an international trade agreement.
"The immense pleasure and great pride we felt upon learning the news is equal to the privilege we enjoy of being able to count on a lawyer of Pierre Marc Johnson’s calibre among our ranks", stated Anik Trudel, Chief Executive Officer.
Me Johnson will receive his award on June 15th at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, during the opening dinner of the Journées du Barreau du Québec.
