    This March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day. This is an opportunity for Lavery to not only spotlight the women who make us shine daily but also the actions we take in favour of equality and diversity. International Women’s Day is a time to recognize and promote unity and defend women’s rights around the world and, especially, to collectively honour the progress we made for gender equality in the workplace to inspire future generations.   3. Lavery announces the hiring of two new lawyers

    Lavery is pleased to announce that two lawyers are joining the firm, in the Montreal office. Charles-Hugo Gagné Charles-Hugo is a lawyer in the Business Law group and a member of the firm’s tax law team. In the course of his practice, Charles-Hugo participates in planning, analyzing and implementing tax structures and strategies as part of major commercial transactions, both in Canada and abroad. “Both local businesses and international companies turn to Lavery when they need solutions to their most complex issues. For a young lawyer, this translates into a remarkable diversity of mandates and makes it possible to work on major cases while staying grounded in the business reality of entrepreneurs.   6. The Court of Appeal upholds the dismissal of the class action against Bel-Air Laurentien Aviation

    The Court of Appeal upheld the dismissal of the class action against our client Bel-Air Laurentien Aviation. In a lengthy judgment rendered in 2019, the Superior Court had found no fault on the part of Bel-Air Laurentien Aviation and no neighborhood disturbance to speak of. The Court of Appeal upheld this conclusion. Myriam Brixi and Laurence Bich-Carrière, who led the defence of the appeal, are relieved for their client who was facing a class action estimated at several tens of millions of dollars. This case was named one of the cases to watch in 2018 by l'Actualité magazine.

  7. Lavery welcomes three new associates and two paralegals

    Lavery is pleased to announce the arrival of three new lawyers and two new paralegals who will bring their wide-ranging expertise to the firm. Gabrielle Ahélo  – Associate Gabrielle Ahélo is joining the firm’s Business Law group, and her practice focuses mainly on corporate, commercial and tax law. Before becoming a lawyer, She spent the first nine years of her career as a paralegal in the corporate and tax sectors. “I see Lavery as a high-quality multidisciplinary firm, close to the Quebec business community and local entrepreneurs. It’s what I liked about it right away. The firm is brimming with quality professionals who stand out and work with their clients to help them achieve their goals and grow their business.   8. Éric Goulet, Érika Beaudoin and Francis Lavigne join Lavery’s Sherbrooke office

    Lavery is pleased to announce the arrival of Éric Goulet as a partner and Érika Beaudoin and Francis Lavigne as notaries in the Business Law group. All three will be based in the Sherbrooke office and will serve the Lavery network. International experience in business law for businesses  Working in Lavery’s Sherbrooke office, Éric Goulet will help businesses achieve growth using his vast experience in financing, mergers and acquisitions and in public contracts in Canada, in the United States and elsewhere in the world. As part of his duties, he will continue to provide consulting services to international organizations by relying on the expertise of professionals in the Sherbrooke office and, through the Lavery network, that of professionals in the Montréal, Québec City and Trois-Rivières offices. Prior to working in a law firm, he served for five years as legal counsel and corporate secretary for a Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) listed company active in the energy sector (power transmission systems), in the manufacturing, sale and distribution of continuously variable transmissions (recreational products and unlicensed vehicles) with operations primarily in the United States, France, China and India. Strategic growth of SMEs  Over his 25 years of experience in the legal field, Éric Goulet also developed expertise in contract negotiation, cross-border transactions, litigation management, corporate governance and regulation, and compliance for public contracts.   10. Myriam Brixi one of Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading lawyers under 40

    Lavery is pleased to announce that Myriam Brixi was recognized by Lexpert as a Rising Stars Leading Lawyers Under 40 on November 25. This prestigious distinction honours lawyers under 40 who stand out in the legal profession. The winners are selected by a jury of law firm managing partners and corporate legal executives based on rigorously studied criteria such as leadership, outstanding professional achievements and service to clients. As a litigation partner, Myriam's practice focuses primarily on class actions, product liability, consumer law and insurance law. Myriam has been involved in complex class actions raising important legal issues. Her experience in these actions has allowed her to develop a thorough understanding of the procedural and strategic aspects of class actions in Canada. Myriam is also actively involved in the community. She was appointed by the Quebec Bar to sit on the Access to Justice Committee.
