  2. Michel Servant invited to preside the Prix Relève d’Excellence 2011 Committee of Réseau HEC Montreal

  3. Alexandre Despatie two-time gold medal winner at Canadian Winter Nationals

  6. 4th Edition of “Les sûretés réelles dans le Code civil du Québec” by Louis Payette, Ad. E., Considered a Benchmark

    Lavery is proud to mention that the 4th edition of “Les sûretés réelles dans le Code civil du Québec” by Louis Payette, Ad. E. was published in May 2010. Mr. Payette first published this book in 1994 following the coming into force of the Quebec Civil Code and he has updated it three times. The first and second editions of the book were awarded The Foundation of Legal Research’s Walter Owen Book Prize, which recognizes “excellent legal writing and to reward outstanding new contributions to Canadian legal literature.” This book has become an essential point of reference for lawyers in this field as well as for courts hearing cases on the subject.   8. Nadine Landry and Nicolas Joubert author an article in the magazine Industrie & Commerce

    Nadine Landry et Nicolas Joubert, lawyers at Lavery, wrote an article entitled “Devoirs et obligations des employeurs qui font appel à de la main-d’œuvre étrangère et modifications à venir” (The Rights and Obligations of Employers that Call on a Foreign Workforce and Future Amendments) published in the magazine Industrie & Commerce.   9. Lavery Launches a New Advertising Campaign. Your Business. Fair and Square.

    Montreal, December 9, 2010 – Lavery is launching a new advertising campaign to reassert its “Law > Business” market positioning and emphasize its lawyers’ commitment to the success of their clients’ businesses through top quality service and counsel. This new campaign, composed of one main firm ad and a series of ads promoting specific practice areas, demonstrates the scope of expertise that Lavery can provide its clients to help them achieve success. During the coming months, ads featuring the slogan “Your Business. Fair and Square.” will run in the business pages of major newspapers, in business magazines, on the firm’s website and on the Internet. All of these messages are featured in a lively presentation available as of today on the Lavery website (lavery.ca) and on YouTube. A first advertisement aimed at recruiting law students for summer employment was launched at the beginning of November. It provides students with a specific email address (lavie@lavery.ca) and gives them access, through a mobile application, to a microsite (laviealavery.ca) exclusively designed for them, by entering a matrix barcode (QR) on their smartphone. This mobile application also appears on all new ads of this campaign.   11. Gérard Coulombe and Valérie Boucher linked to Finance Montreal

    On Monday, November 29, 2010, a new financial organization called Finance Montreal was officially launched. Gérard Coulombe, partner at Lavery, was part of the temporary committee for the development and set up of this organization, which comprises, as founding members, the major players in the Quebec financial industry. Finance Montreal’s mandate is to stimulate the creation and development of financial enterprises in Montreal specifically, and Quebec in general. It aims to identify, support and promote promising and innovative initiatives that benefit the financial sector. Finance Montreal will leverage the mutual co-operation of its members and a close relationship with universities and management schools in order to support the development of the financial sector of Montreal and Quebec.   12. Véronique Morin co-presides over a conference on human resources and labour law

    On November 23rd and 24th, Véronique Morin, lawyer at Lavery, co-chaired a conference called “RH & droit de l’emploi au sein du secteur public et parapublic,” which aimed at providing a forum for and responding to the questions and concerns of human resources administrators and lawyers practising labour and employment law in the public and parapublic sectors.In addition to presiding over the first day of this two-day conference, Ms. Morin was also the speaker of the presentation called “Droit de gérance de l’employeur du secteur public : notions pratiques pour s’en prévaloir efficacement.”Held by the Canadian Institute, this conference was recognized by the Quebec Bar and took place at the Mont-Royal Omni Hotel in Montreal.
