  1. Josianne Beaudry appointed to the board of directors of the Québec Mineral Exploration Association (QMEA)

    At the annual meeting of QMEA members held during the Xplor 2019 convention, our professional, Josianne Beaudry, was appointed to the board of directors of the organization. The Québec Mineral Exploration Association is a non-profit organization representing the stakeholders in Québec’s mining sector. Its mission is to promote sustainable and responsible mining exploration and demonstrate its contribution to Québec’s economy. This appointment not only testifies to the expertise of Josianne Beaudry in Mining Law, but, more generally, recognizes her involvement in the industry.

  2. Lavery helps Chronometriq obtain $20 million in funding

    On October 1, Chronometriq, a Montréal-based supplier of technology that facilitates healthcare access and patient communications, announced that it had received more than $20 million in funding from Full In Partners. This funding will enable our client Chronometriq to strengthen its leadership position in Canada and drive its growth in the United States. Lavery played a significant role in representing Chronometriq’s interests throughout this transaction and helped it take on the kinds of challenges high-growth startups face when negotiating major funding. Chronometriq, founded in 2012, was named one of the 25 most innovative companies by C2 Montréal. It is now a leader in digital healthcare management, thanks to its range of comprehensive appointment management products suited to both clinics and patients. In the past year alone, Chronometriq has served 12 million users through the network of North American clinics that use its products. This mandate was successfully completed thanks to the extensive expertise of the Lavery team led by Jean-François Maurice and made up of Éric Gélinas, Felicia-Yifan Jin, Ali El Haskouri, Tina Basile, Guillaume Laberge, Florence Fournier, Shereen Cook and Pierre-Olivier Valiquette.

  3. Lavery Lawyers announces arrival of Selena Lu as partner

    Lavery is very proud to announce the arrival of Selena Lu as a partner at the firm. Selena has been a member of the Barreau du Québec since 2010. Her practice focuses on commercial law and mergers and acquisitions. She frequently advises clients abroad on investment and expansion in Canada. “Selena is dynamic and committed.   4. Lavery supports Neuvoo in obtaining $53M in financing from the CDPQ

    On September 19, 2019, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) announced a $53 million investment in Neuvoo, a company operating in 77 countries that is experiencing rapid growth in the field of job searches. This investment will allow it to continue its expansion into new markets and improve its online platform through artificial intelligence. Lavery is proud to have assisted Neuvoo with its legal and commercial needs since the company's very beginning, when it was a member of its Lavery GO Inc. program. This is a concrete example of Lavery GO Inc.'s raison d'être: to drive the success of emerging companies and help them move from start-up to growth.

  5. Judith Rochette made a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL)

  10. Anik Trudel appointed to the Montréal Port Authority’s Board of Directors

    Our Chief Executive Officer, Anik Trudel, was appointed on August 12, by the Minister of Transport and Minister Responsible for the Estrie Region, Mr. François Bonnardel, to the Board of Directors of the Montréal Port Authority (MPA) as representative for the Government of Québec. The Montréal Port Authority represents a major pole of business activity in Québec and Canada, in addition to being the gateway for business between Québec and Ontario. In recent years, the Port has distinguished itself and found a prominent position among the world’s most innovative ports. Several major projects are underway, including its expansion in Contrecoeur. “After serving on the MPA’s Board of Directors for 9 years, and my being the first woman to hold the position of Chair, I am honoured by this renewed opportunity. The Port of Montréal is a major engine of our economy and a flagship for the Montréal metropolitan region. I am privileged to join the board team. Board members complement one another through their individual experiences and thereby build a strong team, guiding and supporting a remarkable management team,” said Anik Trudel. The MPA has experienced a spectacular increase in freight tonnage handled in the past few years, despite fiercer competition, not to mention its enviable location as a tourist port with its new Grand Quay. According to the Chairman of the Lavery Board of Directors, Philippe Frère, “this appointment reflects Anik’s strategic thinking and management skills. The role that she will play on this board is fully in keeping with the firm’s vision, namely that of being a partner in growth for the key players in Québec’s economy.”

    Édith Jacques has been recognized as one of Canada's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in 2019 by Canadian Lawyer magazine. She is listed in the Businesscategory with four of her peers. This recognition is a testament to the client-oriented approach that characterizes Édith Jacques. In particular, at the end of 2018, she was central to the closing of the sale of our client Camso Inc. to Michelin, a US $1.7 billion transaction.

  12. Lavery Lawyers represents MTY in the acquisition of the Yuzu Sushi franchise network

    On July 16, MTY formalized the acquisition of Yuzu Sushi, a fast-growing franchise network with more than 100 sushi restaurants and counters in Quebec and New Brunswick. Representing our franchise expertise, a Lavery team spearheaded by Guillaume Synnott, Jean-Sébastien Desroches, Pierre-Olivier Valiquette and Chantal Desjardins was pleased to support MTY in this transaction by proposing a multi-service offer that included our business law and intellectual property groups. MTY owns a large number of restaurant chains including Scores, Mikes, Ben & Florentine, Thaï Express, Sushi Shop and Giorgio Ristorante. In total, these chains have approximately 6,000 franchised and corporate restaurants, mainly in Canada and the United States.
