Lavery appoints five new Partners
Lavery is pleased to announce that Audrey Gibeaut, Justin Gravel, Myriam Lavallée, Marilyn Paré and Virginie Simard have been appointed Partners of the firm. Audrey Gibeault is a member of the firm’s Business Law group and practices tax law. From family-owned businesses to multinationals, she provides companies with advice in connection with reorganizations, corporate acquisitions and sales, but also in regards to developing several private investment funds, including the legal structures to be put in place in order to welcome investors to Canada who are residents and non-residents alike. Justin Gravel is part of the firm’s Litigation and Conflict Resolution group and he practices primarily in the bankruptcy and insolvency, bank law and construction law sectors. He is frequently called on to represent bankruptcy trustees, financial institutions and various construction sector stakeholders before all of the province’s law courts. Myriam Lavallée focuses her practice on labour and employment law, administrative law as well as human rights law. She advises and represents numerous companies in a variety of sectors in connection with individual working relations and collective labour relations. She has specific expertise in the childcare services sector. Marilyn Paré is a member of Lavery’s Business Law group and practices in the areas of transactional law, commercial law, financing as well as corporate reorganizations. She frequently advises companies in drafting and negotiating numerous types of commercial or corporate agreements, such as sales agreements and shareholder agreements. Virginie Simard works with Lavery’s Litigation and Conflict Resolution group. Virginie focuses her practice primarily in the areas of hospital liability, civil and professional liability, director and officer liability, as well as insurance law. Virginie represents insurers, hospital centres, clinics and youth centres before civil courts, in arbitration matters, as well as in connection with coroners’ inquests.

Lavery holds a labour and employment law symposium in Trois-Rivières
The Trois-Rivières edition of Lavery’s Major Symposium on Labour and Employment Law was held on June 13 at the Hôtel Gouverneur. Participants attended various workshops facilitated by Jean Boulet, Nicolas Courcy, Myriam Lavallée and Carl Lessard. The speakers discussed a variety of subjects, including best practices when hiring and terminating an employment, managing employees with difficult behaviour or in psychological distress, and renegotiating collective agreements.

On February 3, Étienne Brassard and Édith Jacques, partners of our Business Law Group, were invited speakers at the Colloque Export Mauricie Rive-Sud held in Trois-Rivières. Myriam Lavallée, a lawyer of our Labor and Employment Law Group, initiated this partnership between Lavery and the Colloque, which gathered over 150 attendees to hear Mr. Brassard's and Ms Jacques’ presentations covering the legal aspects pertaining to export and risk management as well international trade, respectively. La Ruche Mauricie was launched in the presence of Myriam Lavallée, ambassador
Myriam Lavallée, a labour and employment lawyer in Lavery’s Trois-Rivières office, was part of a group of ambassadors who helped createLa Ruche Mauricie, inaugurated on June 16. La Ruche is a crowdfunding platform designed to democratize entrepreneurship by facilitating the process of creating, launching, and managing business projects. A wide variety of projects will thus have access to this funding tool and be able to contribute to the economic development of the Mauricie region. The ambassadors form a partnership of local players who are involved in their respective sectors. Their role is to offer promoters their professional expertise as well as a network of contacts.

Myriam Lavallée appointed to the Board of Directors of the TRCCI
Myriam Lavallée, Labour and Employment Law associate at Trois-Rivières, was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Trois-Rivières Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TRCCI). Ms. Lavallée’s three year term started on June 10, 2015, following the general annual meeting. Ms. Lavallée previously sat on the Tasting of World Wines Committee and the Corporate Monitoring Strategy Committee. Founded in 1881, the TRCCI gathers today more than 900 members from over 600 businesses, whose activities range in all economic areas. This constitutes the biggest independent pool of decision-makers and business leaders in Mauricie, and its mission is to create, develop and maintain an active and dynamic business network which takes part in the socio-economic development of its field.

Marie-Josée Hétu and Myriam Lavallée give a conference to Drummondville’s HR Network
On May 6, 2015, Ms. Marie-Josée Hétu and Ms. Myriam Lavallée, respectively Labour and Employment Law partner and lawyer, gave a conference on the recent developments in this field of practice to members of Drummondville’s HR Network. Over 40 human resources managers attended this breakfast-meeting which showcased this year’s important decisions in labour and employment law. This activity has been held in Drummondville for the past few years and is always greatly appreciated by the participants.The speakers have in fact been asked to come back next year.

Lavery organizes the Annual Conference on Labour and Employment Law in Trois-Rivières
Lavery’s Annual Conference on Labour and Employment Law took place on May 5, 2015 in Trois-Rivières. Close to 100 poeple gathered at the Delta Hotel to attend the various conferences presented by Mr. Jean Boulet, Mr. Nicolas Courcy and Ms. Myriam Lavallée. The speakers discussed different subjects, from the recent developments in labour and employment law, to analyzing the place social media holds in a disciplinary process, and finally, the study of the extent of an employer’s obligation to accommodate in 2015. Launch of the Lavery GO inc. Program in Trois-Rivières!
On April 1st, 2015, Lavery organized a cocktail marking the launch of the Lavery GO inc. Program at Trois-Rivières. The event, which took place at the Restaurant Le Poivre Noir, gathered close to 40 guests. During the evening, Ms. Myriam Lavallée presented the features and advantages the program offers, and discussed the importance of cooperation between public sector bodies and private sector businesses in establishing a business and startup-friendly climate. Mr. Jean Boulet also stressed the importance of such a program as part of the economic transformation the regions of Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec are undergoing.
