  3. Élisabeth Pinard and Pierre Marc Johnson named Lawyer Emeritus (Ad. E.) by the Barreau du Québec

    In a press release issued August 3, the Barreau du Québec published the list of those named Lawyer Emeritus (Ad. E.) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the profession and exceptional career. Lavery is proud to announce that Élisabeth Pinard, coordinating partner of the Family, Personal and Estates Law group and Pierre Marc Johnson, counsel and chief negotiator for the Government of Quebec have been awarded this distinction. This recognition confirms Élisabeth’s expertise in family law and the reputation she enjoys in Quebec and internationally among a number of institutions, businesses and organizations. She was also recently inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. “Her sharp legal mind, strong sense of justice, fairness and integrity, but above all, that dose of humanity that she injects into everything she undertakes bring honour to the profession”, commented Anik Trudel, Lavery’s Chief Executive Officer. The title Advocatus Emeritus will be officially awarded at a ceremony to be held on November 21 in Montréal. Pierre Marc Johnson will be awarded the distinction Lawyer Emeritus, after having received the Barreau du Québec Medal earlier this year.   4. Audrey Gibeault speaks at the AFFQ

    Audrey Gibeault, an associate of the Business Law group and a member of the Professional Development Committee of the Association of Quebec Women in Finance (AFFQ), spoke about Start with why: How great leaders inspire action during a breakfast seminar held on July 7 as part of the Les lectures incontournables series. A second seminar on the same subject will be offered in August.

  5. Pier-Olivier Fradette published in La référence by Éditions Yvon Blais

    On July 5, an article analyzing a decision on access to information and written by Pier-Olivier Fradette, an associate of the Public and Administrative Law group, appeared in La Référence, a specialized publication by Éditions Yvon Blais. The article is a commentary on Aréna Marcel Dutil inc. c. Succession de Gagnon, 2017 QCCQ 278426, a decision on whether organizations and committees that gravitate around municipalities are subject to the Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information.   6. Jean Martel member of the IIAC Hall of Fame Selection Committee

    On June 27, the Investment Industry Association of Canada (IIAC) announced the names of the 2017 Hall of Fame inductees: Catherine (Kiki) Delaney – Founder and President, Delaney Capital Management Ltd. Ned Goodman – Co-founder, Beutel, Goodman & Company; Founder, Dundee Corporation Stephen Jarislowsky – Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Jarislowsky, Fraser Limited William (Bill) Wilder – Former President, Wood Gundy Inc. John Pearce Bunting – Former President and CEO, Toronto Stock Exchange (posthumous) Peter Cundill – Founder, Peter Cundill & Associates Ltd.; Founder, Cundill Value Fund (posthumous) Jean Martel, a partner of the Business Law group, served on the IIAC Hall of Fame Selection Committee. The committee is composed exclusively of distinguished Canadian who have made their mark in various communities, from investments to politics, including the business, legal and academic communities. The 2017 Hall of Fame inductees will be enshrined at a Gala Dinner on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Delta Toronto Hotel.
