  1. Stéphane Martin joins Lavery’s Quebec City office

    Lavery is pleased to announce that Stéphane Martin is joining its Quebec City office as a partner in the Business Law group. This most recent appointment is part of the firm’s efforts to cement its position in business law and contribute to the growth of the region’s businesses and partners. “His recognized expertise of commercial law, financing and banking law, and real estate law in the Quebec City market will add further quality to the Quebec City office’s service offering to private and institutional clients and give it greater depth," said Simon Clément, Managing Partner of Lavery Lawyers’s Quebec City office.   2. Lavery supports the growth of 01 Studio Inc.

    On October 30, 2020, 01 Studio Inc., an enterprising, indie gaming studio, confirmed the closing of a financing with Skymoons Technology Inc., the video game division of Chinese multimedia giant iQIYI, to accelerate its growth and the development of its flagship game, Citywars Savage. In addition to the financing, the parties have agreed on the distribution of Citywars Savage in China and neighboring countries. A Lavery team composed of Jean-François Maurice, Étienne Brassard, Sébastien Vézina, Éric Lavallée, Florence Fournier and Stéphanie Dubois played a significant role in representing the interests of 01 Studio Inc. throughout the transaction, from negotiating the term sheet to the closing the transaction.

  4. Death of Pierre L. Baribeau, former partner of Lavery Lawyers

    Lavery Lawyers was greatly saddened to learn that Pierre L. Baribeau, a former partner of the firm, passed away on November 17, 2020. Pierre joined Lavery Lawyers in 1982 and left at the end of August of this year. For nearly 40 years, he was actively involved with the firm, in particular as leader of our Labour and Employment Law group and as a member of our Board of Directors. Throughout his prolific career, Pierre’s expertise in labour and employment law, administrative law and Aboriginal law was recognized on numerous occasions. Lavery wishes to offer its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, 2020, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 Chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montréal, QC H3V 1E7.   5. Audrey Gibeault one of Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading lawyers under 40

    On November 16, 2020, Audrey Gibeault, a partner in the firm’s Business Law group, received the Rising Stars Leading Lawyers Under 40 award from Lexpert, in recognition of her contribution to the growth of key players in the economy. This award pays tribute to lawyers under 40 who are considered rising stars in Canada’s legal community. The winners are selected based on rigorous and well-defined criteria: professional achievements, leadership, contribution to the profitability of the firm, keen business sense, vision, training and team work. In addition to being a lawyer and having a Master’s degree in Taxation, she is also a chartered accountant, giving her a much broader perspective as a multi-disciplinary advisor. As a legal partner and trusted business advisor, she assists clients in planning and implementing complex and innovative commercial, corporate and tax structures. Her clients are loyal to her and entrust her with their most important transactions, including acquisitions, the sale of their businesses, implementation of profit-sharing plans for their employees, creation of discretionary family trusts and estate planning.

  6. Étienne Brassard wins the M&A Club's Deal of the Year award

    On November 10, the M&A Club of Quebec announced that Étienne Brassard and his team had won the Deal of the Year award in recognition of the strategic role they played in the acquisition of the Molson property by Selection Group. In the video of the award presentation, he highlighted the exceptional work of his team, particularly Bernard Trang and Dolaine Béland as well as Helen Bougas, Vice President, Legal Affairs of Selection Group and her team. The M&A Awards, which were presented virtually this year, are intended to honour the outstanding work of mergers and acquisitions professionals in Quebec and more broadly to recognize the mergers and acquisitions industry and its contribution to the economy. For the second year consecutively, the Lavery team won one of the prestigious M&A awards, following the cross-border transaction of the year in 2019 for the sale of Camso Inc. to Michelin.

She focuses her practice on family law, particularly divorce, separation, child custody, relocation, property division, and child and spousal support.   Anne-Sophie Paquet, associate Anne-Sophie Paquet is a member of the Business Law Group and focuses her practice on transactional law and mergers and acquisitions.   Laurie Vandal-Fortin, associate Laurie Vandal-Fortin is a member of the Business Law Group and her practice focuses in the areas of transactional law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganization and corporate law.
