  1. Étienne Brassard wins the M&A Club's Deal of the Year award

    On November 10, the M&A Club of Quebec announced that Étienne Brassard and his team had won the Deal of the Year award in recognition of the strategic role they played in the acquisition of the Molson property by Selection Group. In the video of the award presentation, he highlighted the exceptional work of his team, particularly Bernard Trang and Dolaine Béland as well as Helen Bougas, Vice President, Legal Affairs of Selection Group and her team. The M&A Awards, which were presented virtually this year, are intended to honour the outstanding work of mergers and acquisitions professionals in Quebec and more broadly to recognize the mergers and acquisitions industry and its contribution to the economy. For the second year consecutively, the Lavery team won one of the prestigious M&A awards, following the cross-border transaction of the year in 2019 for the sale of Camso Inc. to Michelin.

  2. Lavery represents Lexis Média during the acquisition of 12 regional newspapers from Transcontinental

             A Lavery team advised the Groupe Lexis Media in connection with the acquisition of 12 regional newspapers from Transcontinental. The Groupe Lexis Media, which already publishes Homme, Mieux-Être, Moi Parent and  Maternité, now owns the following newspapers:  Le Citoyen Rouyn-Noranda, Le Citoyen de la Vallée-de-l'Or, L'Écho Abitibien and La Frontière, distributed in Abitibi Témiscamingue; L’Action d'Autray, L’Action - édition de mercredi, L’Action - édition du week-end, L’Express Montcalm and Hebdo Rive-Nord, in Lanaudière; and Le Bulletin, La Petite-Nation and La Revue, in Outaouais. The Lavery team was led by Eric Lavallée and included Laurent Bellemare-Proulx, Mylène Boisvert and Justin Gravel.

  4. Lavery represents Bestar inc. in a transaction with Novacap

    On July 20, 2017, Novacap, a Canadian leader in private equity, has acquired an important stake in Bestar Inc. (“Bestar“), a leading designer and manufacturer of ready-to-assemble home and office furniture primarily sold online in Canada and the United States. Bestar Inc. was represented by a team at Lavery including Hubert Pépin (Mergers and acquisitions), Isabelle Mercure (Mergers and acquisitions) and Marilyn Paré (Mergers and acquisitions), Éric Lavallée (Intellectual property), Dave Bouchard (Labour and Employment) and Mylène Boisvert (Financing).

  5. Guillaume Lavoie to participate in a McGill-HEC EMBA panel on mergers and acquisitions

    On October 30, Guillaume Lavoie, a partner and head of the Mergers & Acquisitions and Lavery CAPITAL groups, is participating in a panel on mergers and acquisitions organized by the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA, to be held at HEC Montréal. Entitled The before and after of mergers & acquisitions, the panel will address the various issues and challenges involved in mergers and acquisitions faced by different industries and types of organizations to encourage thought, questions and discussion about the topic using examples drawn from the panelists personal experiences.
